LOGOS HOPE ist auf dem Weg nach Kiel
14. November 2007
Endlich ist es soweit. Letzte Woche erreichte uns diese Meldung über die MV LOGOS HOPE und wir wollen sie euch nicht vorenthalten. Es geht was weiter!
MOSBACH, GERMANY – Logos Hope, OM's newest vessel, departed from Shipyard Trogir, Croatia on Thursday 8 November after completing a two-year conversion project. The vessel is heading to Kiel, Germany, for final outfitting before being launched into service.
“We are one major step closer to a dream that we started dreaming years ago to create more space and opportunity for our visitors to experience the love of God,” announced Chief Executive Officer of OMSI Bernd Gülker.
The Faroe Islands-registered Logos Hope will be used to transport vital literature resources, aid supplies and an all-volunteer crew committed to serving port communities around the world. Major contracted works completed during the time in Shipyard Trogir, Croatia include enhancing the onboard accommodation and installing a whole new deck for hosting visitors, including the Logos Hope book fair. Along with other works, the vessel’s ventilation and sprinkler systems were also substantially upgraded and the bridge completely rebuilt. Alongside the shipyard work, an impressive amount of additional work has been completed by professional volunteers and other willing hands. Further assistance from volunteers with special skills and other available workers is urgently needed during this phase. Individuals, churches, trusts and other community groups have so far donated over €23,000,000 (£16,000,000 or $31,500,000) to help renovate Logos Hope. A further boost in donations is also needed to finish this final stage of preparation and launch the vessel into service.![]()
The vessel’s final outfitting is scheduled to take place in Kiel. Work being undertaken at this time includes furnishing the Visitor Experience, onboard community facilities and other areas where the visiting public will be hosted in the future. The outfitting is expected to take six months and although Logos Hope will have limited scope to host visitors in this period, booked groups will be welcome.
“The arrival of Logos Hope in Kiel is a great milestone toward the completion of the project. We look back with thankfulness to see the Lord's mercy and faithfulness. People, finance, plans and prayers have come together to make this day a reality. And we look forward with confidence that Lord will continue to lead us. We can see the moment approaching when the ship will begin active service,” said Logos Hope Project Director Lloyd Nicholas, Australia.
Purchased on 19th April 2004, Logos Hope offers significantly larger capacity to serve port communities around the world. Resources on board existing OMSI vessels Logos II and Doulos are overstretched to host the many thousands of people who visit each day. The project to launch Logos Hope began in September 2001 and since then has continued to gather momentum towards this last stage of preparation and an expected launch in spring 2008. At that time, up to 400 volunteer staff and crew will live and work on board and applications to join the crew are now being accepted. Contributions to the Logos Hope Project can be made through OM offices around the world or online at: www.omships.org/donate.
